Pushing a shopping cart can be a very humbling experience. Especially, when the basket is loaded full of worthless crap. It almost seems surreal to be using it for something other than a basket full of groceries. This is the less glamorous side to being a drifter that most people don’t realize. Probably because it’s not sensationalized on TV. For every beautiful sunset that you get to see, there will inevitably be a craphole part of town that you will have to trudge through to get to it. In Los Angeles, that hole of crap would be Skid Row. I find this place to have no redeemable qualities whatsoever except for the occasional serving of gruel at the missions. Obviously, I won’t be taking very many pictures of this dump, but if it is not so obvious then it is mainly for two reasons:
1 – Nobody is missing anything.
2 – They’ll think I’m a narc and that would be the sure route to getting lynched.
Every day I watch them wreak havoc and chaos in the middle of the streets and then slink around like undead creatures in the middle of the night. Craving one thing and one thing only, and they’ll do anything to get it.
So I guess this is how it begins. I knew that Darkness was approaching but I had no idea how pitch black. Fate, it would seem, is always three moves ahead. Well played, sir. Well played. What better way to break a man’s spirit than to strip away every shred of hope that he was clinging to. I wonder how long it will be before I am just another lifeless zombie lurking in the shadows. I can already start to feel my soul starting to slip away. Like sand passing through the slits of my fingers.. dissipating into the wind..
If, for whatever insane reason, someone would want to come to this wretched Damnation of the Earth. They had better be prepared to enter the Twilight Zone. It has all the makings of a bad dream or twisted reality. The only thing it doesn’t seem to have.. is a way out.
