Okay.
So maybe I was a little harsh on the so called So Cal beauties.
It's not really their fault that they are constantly pleasant zombies anyway.
See, there are these things called seasons that the rest of the world experiences.
No, I'm not talking about the oregano or peppercorns on your organic, local steak.
I'm talking about the tilt of the earth's axis and it's impact on the weather patterns.
I believe it is the form that these weather patterns take on in an individual's home territory that directly impacts the quality of their humanness.
Say whaa?
See, here in the southern end of a massive state we call California, approximately 80% of the days are sunny. It can get a bit over comfortably warm once in a while but for the most part life is easy and flip flops are functional.
This might be why I got so many stares of disbelief when wanting to make the move up to the frigid, dark north. "You are from CaliForniA and vant to live HEERE!?" *accent 100% accurate*. At first I was all smiles and sparkles, confident as can be, naively unworried about the approaching darkness. When it hit and daylight hours were minimized, accompanied only by a gloomy, few hour glow - I got a big wake up call.
I mentioned in my previous post, the lack of small talk from Finns. It's a quite known phenomenon of the Nordic folk and it makes perfect sense if you have ever stood at a bus stop in -20 and tried to think of something clever to say. It's not that the Finnish women are more direct by chance - it's that they are freezing and need to be as efficient as possible in their expenditure of energy by getting to the point sooner.
Same can be said for the women in down here in Sunshine Land. They aren't making a deliberate choice to be superficial - it's just that they don't have anything better to do. Their easy-going, lighthearted approach to life is a direct reflection of the big, yellow ball of happiness hanging in the sky above their picturesque beaches. Worrying about clothes and pets is a direct result of having no real issues in life - like keeping warm for example.
I'm not saying everyone needs to go sit in an igloo to become a "real" person. But I do think we need to stop taking the sun for granted and perhaps put on a pair of real shoes from time to time. Also, can everyone stop waving and smiling at me for no reason at all?
