Everyone’s favorite lo-fi surf pop band Best Coast has a new album out ‘The Only Place’ to follow up their smash debut album ‘Crazy for You’. ‘The Only Place’ again brilliantly displays lead singer’s Bethany Costentino’s voice front and center, but the band ditched some of the lo-fi sound that made them such a quirky success with the first album and picked up somewhat of a country twang in the second that some critics have expressed a disdain for, but that I rather like. I don’t see Best Coast being the next Beach Boys, the next Sonic Youth or the next Katy Perry in Costentino, but they’re fun, so enjoy them while they’re around. The album cover is great by the way.
