Yes, of course I buy a ton of books on Amazon.com, but for years I have loved Skylight Books in Los Feliz if I just wanted to go to a bookstore and thumb through some different tombs. Going into a great bookstore just makes you want to hunker down next to a fire with a good book and be with your own thoughts. Borders and places like that just don't do the trick; too corporate and cold for me. Book Soup in West Hollywood is ok, but the other day I came across a great independent bookstore called Stories Books and Cafe in Echo Park.
The place kind of looks like the perfect old college bookstore (nothing too fancy) with all sorts of quirky old books with a cafe and even a patio outback where they were having amateur comedy night and it was packed with people. There were three or four guys doing routines and they were hysterical. The place is right on the main drag in Echo Park on Sunset Boulevard just a couple doors down from The Echo. It was a cool place.
